Update

April 29, 2010 at 4:19 am (Uncategorized)

It’s been 2 and a half months since I have written. I really don’t know why I let it go that long, so much has happened.

I turned 25.

Met some new friends.

Watched far too much reality TV.

Am really starting to embrace the “Navy Wife” Life… (I will explain this statement in detail later… so please don’t crucify me for this statement).

Have been working at my business.

And lastly, I have completely settled in to my new city and state.

All in all, things have been well, and I will start piecing together all of the missing details in the morning.

A Very Special February

February 18, 2010 at 8:37 pm (Uncategorized)

I am well aware that I have been missing in action from my blog these last few weeks. February has been packed with milestone events. For example February 12th symbolized 1 year since JT and I met. Therefore, obviously February 14th was our 1st Valentine’s Day together.
Also, friends have been coming and going lately from staying at our apt on weekends, and I have really started an almost regular part time work schedule. I know that sounds really sketchy and not like any kind of regular work schedule at all, but I average an hour or two a day 5 days a week, and it’s actually paying off. I have come to decide that I will make more money spending half a day in my pj’s than my husband makes with his career. I look forward to the day, very soon when that becomes a reality.
Motivation is running high in my life right now, not only with work, but with my overall self. JT and I are averaging 3 days a week at the gym, and officially today I started the Self Challenge 2010. I am excited and pumped up, and plan on really changing my lifestyle this year.
The season for new beginnings is starting soon and I certainly have plenty of new beginnings myself.

My Bad… Lost Password

February 3, 2010 at 6:27 am (Uncategorized) ()

So very sorry for the delay in writing. I have missed this outlet for the past 2 weeks. I forgot my password, and for shear laziness I didn’t reset my password. But I am back, and excited about the developments that have occurred during this little break.
The quick run down is:
I started focusing on my business again.
I go to the gym 2 to 3 times a week.
I dyed my hair…RED!
VA had 6 inches of snow.
I bought the book: The Last Summer of You and Me by Ann Brashares. (I’m halfway through it).

Navy Wife Lesson 1

January 16, 2010 at 8:25 pm (Navy, Navy Wife, Newlyweds)

Your house is not really a house… It is a bed and breakfast.

Be prepared… when you cook dinner… inevitably hungry sailors will show up. And yes, they will eat as much as you let them! Home-cooked meals are rarities, and they rank higher than gold.

When you invite people over for an evening, there will Always be couch crashers. Stock up on extra sheets, pillows, blankets, and own at least one air mattress.

Your shower will never have hot water. Any time any guy living on a ship stops by for more than one hour, your shower will be used. Always have extra towels on hand.

Now, I know what you are thinking, this sounds incredibly frustrating, and the first time you plan that romantic dinner for you and your husband, and extra house guests show up, you probably will be frustrated and disappointed, but let it ride, because you just had fair warning. I advise you to take a look at it the way I have… it’s like re-living your college years all over again. Think back to the first one of your friends that had their own apt… maybe it was you… did your friends come over when that got too drunk to go back to the dorms? Did they inhabit your shower when there was no hot water left after 65 girls had showered? Where did they go when they just couldn’t handle being there anymore?

Well, there you go… that is what it will be like at your house. So, enjoy your new found employment as an Innkeeper! Maybe if your real smart, you’ll charge rent! 🙂

Girl Day 2

January 15, 2010 at 12:48 pm (beauty consultant, cooking, Girl Time, Navy)

So, after Tuesday, my first girl day in a long time, I decided I wasn’t quite done yet. I had to go out again. My BFF and I decided it was time… to *gasp* go back to work *bigger gasp*. After moving to VA, work just went by the wayside. So, here it is 2 months after arrival and time to get moving again. We both share the same job, and I must say it is one of the best jobs a woman could ask for. We are Mary Kay Beauty Consultants.

Wednesday night we dressed up, and drove to a Virginia Director’s meeting, and met a new group of women. We spent 2 hours planning how to move our businesses from Indiana to Virginia, and left feeling much better after getting out for just a few hours. I got dressed up, went back to work, socialized with some women, and had a cup of coffee.

Two hours added with the left over euphoria from Tuesday made me feel completely rejuvenated, so rejuvenated that last night I cooked dinner for Jesse and I. Now, I know to most people this seems like a typical every day event, but not in our household! I’m just… not into cooking. I know how to cook (for the most part), but I don’t like to. I receive absolutely No Joy from cooking, therefore I don’t do it very often.

Last night, I set the table (included some wine glasses), sauteed onions, peppers, and shrimp, made rice and green beans. It turned out rather well, and Jesse really appreciated the gesture. Although, I have decided that every time I do cook, I should make double the amount because inevitably one of the guys from the ship comes over, and boy do they Love a home-cooked meal, even from a mediocre cook like me.

A Girl’s Day

January 13, 2010 at 6:38 am (Girl Time, Navy)

So, I’m going to take a quick break from the reminiscing I was doing all weekend. While Jesse was on duty, I sat at home on Saturday blogging, watching TV, and sleeping because I had a cold.

Today I had a girl’s day. This was HUGE for me because I have spent the past two months mostly by myself or with Jesse once he gets off work. I am not working a regular job right now, so I spend my days alone and my nights with my husband. I just moved here, so I don’t know very many people yet, and most of the people I know are in the Navy, and they are at work, on the same ship as Jesse. My scenario seems to be the norm amongst the few women I have met, so far only one out of five works 30 hours or more a week. I don’t want to dwell on this fact just yet, I don’t feel I’ve met enough women to draw any type of substantial conclusion.

Nevertheless, my days are spent mostly at home, and typically, in my previous Single-Life I was much more active in the world than I am currently. So, today, was the first day I felt like I stepped outside my Bubble, and was among people again.

My best friend from back home, just moved to VA to move in with her Sailor boyfriend. How perfectly fantastic this worked out for her and I! She does live closer to me now than she did 3 weeks ago, when we were a 14 hour drive apart, now we are only 45 minutes, but that is still not the 5 minutes away that we are used to. I am happy that we have seen each other a couple of times in the past 3 weeks. Today, though was the first time we spent an entire afternoon hanging out as girls again. Today, we did not rush home to our significant others, we had an hour and a half Coffee Clutch at Denny’s, and a trip to the mall where we window-shopped for a few hours.

I feel renewed and rejuvenated, bettered by a few hours of innocent girl time. My advice to every woman feeling stuck in a rut or a little burnt out, call a friend, watch an hour of mindless television, go to Starbuck’s and have a whole milk mochachino, get a pedicure, do whatever it is that you haven’t done in awhile, it doesn’t have to be anything extravagant or costly, just something small for you!

Good night all, EttN.

Portsmouth, VA: Easter Weekend Continued…

January 9, 2010 at 9:37 pm (dating, Love, Navy, travel) ()

The drive back to VA started at 2pm Central time and we expected to reach VA by 2am Eastern time, I’m not sure how we came up with that time frame, except that friends of ours told us that’s how long it took them…. clearly it took much longer…we didn’t arrive until 5am, 20 mins before J had to catch a bus to take him to his school, which is for some Navy training course he had to take. That entire day for me was a blur of sleeping because I wouldn’t fall asleep in the car while he was driving.
That night we checked into a Quality Inn, and went out for a nice dinner at a Bar & Grill… Jesse was pracically falling asleep at the table.
This was the first day I actually had any impression of a Navy schedule, and the first time I saw Jesse in uniform. Those work uniforms by the way were really… Very Nice and no wonder women tend to fall for a man in uniform, unfortunately for us women who want to ogle a little, the uniforms changed this past year, and they are now a blue camo… which in my opinion are nowhere near as nice… or maybe they are just less form fitting 🙂

Left to my own devices on the second day of my extended stay… I went exploring in downtown Portsmouth. I had maybe one of the most peaceful days I could possibly have exploring this little historic area, walking up and down the streets… I talked with several different people, shop owners, a church secretary, a Navy wife… and I’m not going to lie, I think this was the moment when I got a little excited and a little too caught up in our relationship. The women I spoke to were all curious about me and wanted to know more about my purpose here therefore my relationship with Jesse… and I embellished a little… I might have used the word fiance once or twice… *Insert a soft pink blush*

Meet the Family

January 9, 2010 at 8:40 pm (dating, Love)

The long distance certainly sped up our dating process… our second date was a weekend long, and the weekend Jesse met my entire family. We had a day to ourselves, Easter with my family, and a meal with his dad and step mom. It’s still amazing how much we were able to cram into our short times with eachother.

Easter Weekend:

Gotta ❤ Peeps!

Directly after Easter brunch he had to pack up his car and drive 14 hours back to VA. He spent less than 36 hours with me that weekend before he had to make the trip back.
A kiss goodbye should have been the end of our weekend together….
But as I said before, one of the major reasons we bypassed the long distance hurtle was because we went the extra mile. I quickly packed my Vera Bradley over night bag with 2 outfit changes, nightgown, mini make-up bag, and toothbrush jumped in the car with him and made the 14 hour drive back to VA.
He was so thankful for the company because he became so sluggish after his large Easter meal. We grabbed a few Monsters and hunkered down for our drive.

Inspiration Board

January 9, 2010 at 6:38 pm (Wedding)

I was scrolling thru some other women’s wedding blogs and I came across the site Style Me Pretty…

I created a inspiration board off of their site, using their wedding photos (there are hundreds). I wish I had seen this site before my own wedding. Still, I couldn’t resist making an inspiration board for fun, and I know I will go back soon and make one with my own wedding photos soon.

In the meantime, here is what I came up with… I stayed very close to ideas I used for my own wedding, I just dreamed a little bit bigger. Enjoy!
